I just recently got a job at Best Buy, working for the Geek Squad (start bashing me now). And I know someone who works there also, who is also a friend of mine. He mentioned that the first purchase you make as an employee, you are entitled to 75% off. How true is this, and what can I expect to pay for an LCD TV with the employee discount. Thanks.

I know there are mediocre employee discounts on a bunch of things, but..asking this in MacRumors? :p Shouldn't you be asking some coworkers or whatever?

If it is 75% off..that would be a great way to buy a new Mac if it qualified :D

I used to work at best buy, and never encountered this 75% discount. Although i was a cashier, so things might be different for geek squad.
Seriously, best buy was the worst job i have ever had. Managers don't listen to you, customers hate you, and whenever you fail to sell a prp or psp you are guaranteed to hear about it.
I don't wanna make you regret your decision, just my two cents

Former BBY employee. Employee discount is 5% above wholesale. Biggest discounts are seen on TVs. Don't bother with the computers, you won't get much off.

Yeah, there is no 75% discount for first purchase.

I second what steamboat said too, on all fronts.

My car completely broke today, apparently a gasket popped somewhere in the engine, and now its bleeding coolant. Called up my store, supervisor was like "lemme see what I can do for you to help you out"

Calls back 10 minutes later, saying either hand in your resignation or we'll just terminate you since you cant make it in at all (None of my friends would give me a ride, and I have no money for cabs.)

I, of course, took the resignation offer. But the way they made it seem like they were going to help me, then just basically said f*** you, is just rude.

Yes, I've called out 3 times in the past two months, but geez, its still a little harsh. Dumb of them too, because I didnt work again until next Saturday, and chances are, I'll have another car next week, or it fixed, as I have connections with the local food bank director, who has a fleet of cars, and really likes me, since I help him with his computers and network. :D

Personally, I'd consider going back at a later date, for one to two days a week, just for the discount. Because its that sweet. But man, I feel sorry for the regular customers, god, does BB rape you in margins. Those 46.99 USB cables I was able to buy for a whopping 2.94 a piece, which is about 1600% markup.

@ the retail place that i used to work for.. the employee discount is 10% above cost that goes for any department @ the store..

Oh yeah if you don't hit your 'Sale Goal' per week then the supervisors/Department Manager/Store Manager will be on your Ar$e to improve to 'Sales' or they'll release you

True on the computers.. The highest markup is @ Tv department/Car Audio

@ the store i was 'employed' @ those 2 departments at least 60% markup minimum

Sorry Reanimation for your sudden release....

Once i was 'hired' and until i was released i spent $3,600 over that time using my 'Discount' and i never got the 75% off discount as OP is thinking..

I bought a 10 ft extension (non-active) retailed @ $12.00 and i paid under $3 for it ..
