I could not remmber my internal drive password. So i thought i would do a fresh instal and hoped i could use a new password as i have done before,i could not.So i thought i could get one from time machine backup .But it would only let me reinstal a fresh copy .I am luckey i don,t use the internal drive much and have it on a external drive.I have no idea why i did change the password. Is there anyway i can change the password on the internal drive? The reason i wanted to reinstal was because i had Windows bootcamp on there ,it stoped working.I was thinking of getting the M4 MAC MINI .Plus the fact that this 2017 is not longer supported. :( The thing is that this machine is working well and has a good few years of life left, after all it is only eight years old.

When you set up the password, there was a tick box option to allow you to use your Apple ID to reset your password. If you ticked that box previously, you should be able to gain access to your drive. If you didn’t, I believe you are stuck unless you can provide proof of purchase to your local Apple Store who can then reset for you.
