For love or money I cannot free up enough space on AW3

Team, I have an AW3 with 8GB of storage. The watch tells me I've got to free up 3GB in order install the new Watch OS update. I have tried all the tricks I know to free up space and can't seem to get there.
  • no music
  • no pictures
  • no podcasts
  • deleted almost all non apple apps
  • only one email account
It still has 4.7 GB is my total allocation (after built in apps) and 1.5GB is free only.

What are your tricks to get space freed up?
 
I had to reset(erase all contents and settings) and then re-pair to get enough room on my series 3
 
Literally in the same situation. I have nothing on my Watch. All messages deleted, no third-party apps, no music, no photos. But somehow I don't have space to upgrade to WatchOS 7.

Oh well, I'm staying on WatchOS6.
 
I had that same problem with my AW Series 3. Ended up unpairing and setting it up as a new watch before I could update to the new OS.

All my workout data is backed up to Apple Health so it all stayed with me!

Yeah, the other posters are right. I had to do the same thing with my AW3 -- unpair, set up as new. All your awards, exercise data, everything is stored in the iCloud and you'll see it back (some maybe not right away) - but eventually it all comes back - it did for me and my wife!
 
I had to change my message settings to save only 30 days worth prior to unpairing and setting up as new. It was still a pain - it took me several tries and I gave up twice. Finally got it to work.

I was helping my husband get the new software. I rebooted the iPhone and the watch and it finally worked! He had nothing on his watch either, except a Lyft app.My next step was to un-pair and re-pair his watch. Glad I didn’t have to do that.

His GPS AW3 came with 8 GB. My AW5 and new AW6 both have 32GB.
