I am having a debate with my friend regarding the genre of certain movies.

I say:

Dramas: Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, The Patriot

Action: Blood Diamond, Clear and Present Danger, Twister

He believes just the opposite.

What do you think and why?

Because everyone can have an opinion and a believe, especially if genres can interact and be even combined.

Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan and Blood Diamond (don't know the other movies) share many aspects of action movies, but also share many aspects that are characteristic for dramas.

IMDB genre for

Braveheart: Action | Biography | Drama | History | War

Saving Private Ryan: Action | Drama | War

Blood Diamond: Action | Adventure | Drama | Thriller

Btw, you forgot the a in enthusiasts.

Now the missing a has become an e. Nice.

Other than placing any Mel Gibson movie in the "Utter Crap" genre, I agree with you.

We know what IMDB says, we already looked. There is no way of indicating Whether what is listed first is primary of the laters

Just because it's the first word doesn't mean anything.

What if is is sorted by alphabet?

And as I wrote before, genres can interact. That's the beauty of it.
That's why I can't stand those "pure" action movies. There has to be some other element in it, like comedy, thriller, or even drama.
Because action is just boring with nothing else. It's like porn, nice to look at but nothing to get out of (except the obvious), no satisfaction besides the physical.

Oy! Mad Max was one of the great dystopian films. Road Warrior was okay, but Thunderdome. Meh!:p

Anyhow, IMO, Blood Diamond & Saving Private Ryan are clearly drama (very character driven).
Braveheart and Twisters are action (mostly action for the sake of action).
Gladiator, The Patriot & Clear and Present Danger are 50/50.

i agree with you. Dramas have a deeper story line...and you remember the movie for that. Action...well you just want to see **** blow up. (IMO)
