I discovered this a few days ago. When you want to read a text message on the lockscreen and quick reply but only you. You turn on the display and touch the home button to see the content of that text message. And you can also leave the text message on the lockscreen, just turn off the display and it hides back the content of the message. This works with all notifications. This is for those who don't know about this, I thought it might be a good idea for more people to know.

Steps:
  1. head to Settings - Notifications - Show Previews and select "when unlocked"
  2. Settings - general - accessibility - home button - and toggle off "Rest finger to open"
 
This kind of access to notifications on the lock screen was one of the main reasons behind the whole change with the swipe to unlock functionality being removed.
