So the other day at work I was walking past a recycle bin and noticed a large silver mylar bag with the words "Swollen Mac and Mac Battery" written in black marker on it. Naturally, I immediately thought "Awesome, that's got to be a laptop". I went ahead and nabbed the bag and opened it. There was a perfect condition 11" MacBook Air in the bag with the bottom case off (case was also in the bag) and an obviously swollen battery still installed. Anyways I took it home, removed the battery and plugged in the laptop using my MacBook Pro power supply(which fired right up perfectly)!! The existing OS on the Air was Snow Leopard so I downloaded El Capitan, wiped the internal SSD and installed it. Turns out to be a late 2010 11" MacBook Air with 4GB of Ram and a 64 GB SSD and it's in perfect condition except for missing the bottom case screws and bad battery. Quick trip to Ebay for a set of screws and OWC for a brand new battery which is on its way.

I'm going to give this to my wife to use as she travels a lot and this will be quite a bit lighter than her current 13" MacBook Pro, mid 2010, and I think she'll be happy.

Amazing the cool stuff that people will chuck simply because it needs a new battery....

:)
