(for those in San Francisco or the Bay Area) Public transportation to the Muir Woods?

I'd like to go to the Muir Woods, and am looking for public transportation that'll take me there. I remember the Muni having a bus go there during the summer months, but seems not anymore (or I was mistaken). Anyone here have information on how to get there by bus?

They are out of the way. It would be easier to go on a tour or hire a car.

If there was a bus, odds are it wasn't a Muni bus since Muir woods are in a different county.

I think your best bet would be to look for a cheap tour bus that leaves from the city. Otherwise, if you're going with a friend, carpool together.

I used to take Golden Gate Transport to Mill Valley all the time. they might have a route that goes somewhere near.

I think you can take a ferry over to Sausalito (sp?) and then there's a bus that runs during weekdays from Sausalito to Muir. I could be wrong about that, though.

I'm at work so I can't spend too much time looking, but a quick search turned up this, which seems to confirm my suspicions that (at least for another few months) you can take the ferry and then catch a bus.
