What will make you upgrade your current iPhone? For me:
- Slimmer bezels
- USB type-C port
- WQHD display

Slimmer bezels and therefore smaller phone, Oled screen, higher ppi, better batterylife, 3,5 mm jack (not likely), no protruding camera (what was Apple thinking?).

Wireless charging!
Agreed. They kind of doubled down on lightning it seems with the headphones. Not to say redesigning a pair of headphones is out of the question, but it doesn't seem like something a company would do if they were going to axe the port in a generation.
All of this. Lightning Port is staying for a while, if not eventually moving over to the Mac itself. And wireless charging is coming to the iPhone, so the lightning port can stay for headphones, or we can get no ports whatsoever if they're super confident in the wireless charging and wireless headphone technology.
[doublepost=1474062841][/doublepost]And honestly, I can't believe they will stay with the same design 4 years in a row. Next year is going to be a redesign, and my prediction is the iPhone name will be discontinued. Next year we will all be introduced to the brand new :apple:PHONE.

I was shocked to see that on the six.. Even more shocked to see it has stuck around for three generations.

Not only that. It got worse. That bump on the plus is hideous.

My guess is they lose the number but stick with iPhone. Maybe next year is too soon for that.

But there already was a device called just "iPhone" with no number. The very first one. I don't see how they can drop the number but keep the name. Either they start a new phone product line or they keep going with the numbers. Those are the only two options I see.
But I think there was a definite reason they chose WATCH and not iWatch. Just like they're testing out other tech on the watch first, I think that was foreshadowing of a name change for the phone, too.

I think they should just call it iPhone S next year.

I will update again from my SE when something physically smaller than the 4.7" models comes around (besides the SE).

Might be a long wait...no worries. I LOVE my SE

I'm thinking I will upgrade when Apple stops iOS support for my 5. iOS 10 runs better than I expected on it, and I'm loathe to get rid of a device that is still usable and has a nearly new battery (it was replacement refurb).

I update alternate years because that's when I start getting tired of my phone. Nobody knows what the next phone will have. I can only tell you what would prevent me from doing my regularly scheduled update next year.

Not to mention that the tenth anniversary model is blind to be awesome.

It's not really apples fault unless you don't want the phones to be as thin as they are. Until Sony makes slimmer high performance sensors they will always come out just like in any other phone.

They chose Apple Watch because they couldn't get the rights to the iwatch name in Europe which another watch manufacturer already claimed.

It's getting close to the line on thinness. Not sure I really want it much thinner. Apple Watch is really the last Apple product I think could stand to lose a few mm.
