How come some of you (like myself) have a triangle below
the dot? And how come some of you just have a dot without
the triangle?

This is for the space below the apps icon in the dock when the
app is open.

Those are the original indicator, you have to replace it with something else.
 
If you're talking about the smoked glass one, I don't think it's a triangle. I think it's a reflection of the blue dot.

Yeah the smoked glass one, or the glossy one, from the little installer
app that was shared here.

I thought it was reflection of the dot.. but it looks more like a triangle.
I'll look at it again this evening. Thanks.

Yeah, the original indicators have the sort of "under lighting" thing going on - looks good on the lighter docks, totally over the top on the dark docks. I shaved the bottom off of the originals so it just looks like the light is diffusing out to the edge of the glass:
