Moderation Note

The duplicate thread from PRSI was moved and merged with the one from Community.

This thread is no longer in PRSI, so please don't make political comments here.

I considered deleting the duplicate, but the cat pictures convinced me otherwise. I know I'm not prepared to "leap ahead", and those cats don't look like they are, either.

Since it's no longer in PRSI, we can instead argue vigorously about whether it's Daylight Saving Time or Daylight Savings Time. :)

The original reasons for creating Daylight Saving Time has long been debunked. A few other weaker justifications for DST have been floated over the years but none of those have been recognized as valid.

Worse, there's an increasing body of evidence that DST time changes result in more accidents around the two annual transitions.

The world should just stick with standard time. Remember that many countries in the tropical zone don't have Daylight Saving Time as well as some countries outside the tropical zone.

Japan is a G7 country that has never implemented Daylight Saving Time and it roughly spans the same latitudes as the continental United States. If the Japanese can handle life without Daylight Saving Time, shouldn't the rest of the world be able to handle it?

China abandoned Daylight Saving Time in 1991. That is one big ass country with a whole lot of people.

They also cope with one single time zone - despite a similar longitudinal spread to the USA. Kind of like running the entire country on Oklahoma time, from east coast to west.

Friday i attempted the first post and it disappeared, whoosh!! just like that?
some time, hours later, i entered the second attempt.

spring = brand new frontier
we are absolutely NOT planting anything this year till mothers day.

Farewell Darkness, my old friend,
I shan't relax with you again,
As twilight will not come so early.
Clock adjustments make me surly,
And the mornings
when I waken will be darker,
breakfasts starker,
Thanks to Daylight... Saving.

LOL Beijing doesn't care about inconveniencing the farmers in Western China. Most of their large population centers are in the eastern part of the country.

Arizona doesn’t move their clock (as I visit their often) however I’m looking forward to DST.
There are a handful of places in the continental USA that doesn't change their clocks. I think there was a small area of Indiana that didn't do this.

For sure the Hawaiians don't change their clocks.

The Mexican state of Sonora does not observe daylight saving time to match neighboring Arizona's standard time. Quintana Roo also does not observe daylight saving time.

One thing for sure, if we just stuck with standard time it would make the lives of many software engineers a lot easier!

Arizona doesn't. It's awesome, except we have to deal with folks who aren't as _enlightened_.

In the U.K. we always move to Summer Time on the last Sunday in March. Always have. Tomorrow is unfortunately Mother’s Day in the U.K. I hate that more than losing an hour in bed!

I live in Phoenix, AZ, so haven't had to adjust clocks in 21 years. My kids, both born here, have never ever had to deal with that either.

I just have to remember the time difference in other parts of the country according to the time of year.

Arizona's original justification for abandoning DST was one of sunlight. When it's 118º degrees in mid-August, another hour of daylight is a truly evil thing. We are already dealing with the sun going down around 8pm at that time of year. Making it 9pm would just be murder.

There is no evidence of "another plan ... in the works to keep us on DST permanently" [sic].

It's just the status quo.

Until there is a major grassroots effort to abolish Daylight Saving Time, the governments of this world will likely keep things as is.

Remember that humans are the only species on this planet that are affected by a numerical value on a clock or wristwatch. A raccoon will make its daily rounds based on dawn and dusk, not what the current administration says what time it is.

Nah, there are cockamamie proposals all the time. Remember than anything can be repealed or recalled.

Even heads of state or constitutional amendments.

Any move to make DST permanent will/should be treated as nonsense. I know that some people on the Internet don't understand such nuances.

Waste of time. The Senate has far more important issues to deal with.

Now that the GOP is no longer in control of the Senate I expect this to get shot down very quickly. In fact, the American people may end up infuriated that certain Senators are focusing on crap like this instead of more pressing issues.

There is a damned good chance this will backfire on the signatories and draw negative publicity.

I'm guessing that it is 98.5% sure that this bill will never make it to point where it is voted on by the entire Senate.

I'd rather stay on daylight savings permantily. I think most of the country would too. No reason we change clocks at all.

we had what most likely will be the last winter storm come through Sunday, the first day of Daylight Savings Time. No one noticed sun rise was delayed last couple of mornings.

we got a new puppy and did not notice both the snow + the time change.

citizens here need to exercise restraint and not start spring planting till after mothers day is all
