To make the test as fair as possible, I loaded an identical clip from my gopro recorded in 4k 60fps HEVC at 100mbs onto both machines desktop. I did identical color grading to both files and ran the test a few times to get both machines nice and warm to mimic sustained speeds under load.
Regardless of it's using real or hyperthreaded cores, it doesn't make a big difference beyond about 4-5. In fact on the new machine it's actually worse using more than that.
But the gpu is substantially better and pays real world dividends on rendering time. Might not be the biggest deal to some of ya but for those that use NEAT noise reduction as part of our videography workflow, this is a big deal.
