Hi guys!

I just wanted to know, my iMac's superdrive always burns at 8x. I would like to know if i could burn as low as 4x? I seem to get better quality music CD's burning with 4x (At the moment i have to use an old cruddy desktop for burning CD's at such speed). So, is it possible either in OS X or Windows? Since i have both on my iMac. My CD Media used is: Maxell. and according to the packaging on these CD's, the following speeds are able to be used with these CD's: 1x to 52x. However in system profiler, the burn speed's available for the media are: 8x and 24x.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

I had problems with my SuperDrive (imac 20" intel core duo 2006) burning unreadable DVDs a while ago. I dropped the burn speed down to 2x and it's worked fine ever since. Try it and see what happens. The worst that will happen is you'll ruin a blank cd.

If i try selecting a lower speed, it just burns at 8x anyway. I even tried trial software that supposedly forces 1x speed, still, burnt it at 8x.
