Is this a software or hardware issue?
I am planning to make an appointment to genius bar but wonder will I get it fix same day..

All you can do really is check your settings, restart your Mac (also try SafeMode), and add a new user account. If this fails then Apple need to look at it. I like the new "Force Touch" trackpad, equally it does add a new layer of software & hardware complexity for a yet to be seen significant advancement in the user experience.

Q-6

I have had (2) die in exactly the same way - feedback starts to get 'softer', then simply stops giving any feedback at all. The touchpad still functions ok, just no clicks or vibrations. The Genius bar has had to send out each time for a "bottom replacement" - took a few days each time. Works for a few months, then dies again.

Such a wonderful machine, but definitely an issue here (with an admittedly very small sample size of me).
