Force download of Photos to Mac so that I can edit in iMovie?

I need to convert some iPhone .mov movies to .mp4 to share for a project, but they seem to be stuck in the cloud and not importing onto my disk so that I can edit them in iMovie.

This may be simple, but this is my first new Mac in 10 years, and it seems like A LOT has changed.

Thanks for any help anyone an offer!
