I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my old CRT TV. I have a DVI to VGA cable, and then a cable that goes from VGA to Composite and also S Video. But it doesn't recognise my TV as a monitor (it doesn't show any additional displays being attached), and therefore won't output a signal. Are there any free bits of software that can make your computer do this? It seems like it should be a simple thing to do, but unfortunately it's not built in to OSX. I've seen lots of threads suggesting restarting the TV whilst connected to the laptop, plugging into a VGA monitor first and then wiring up the TV, having the laptop resolution set to a lower setting first, etc, etc. None of these work or are good for me. I'm reasonably technically proficient and I have some understanding of display tech, so I'm sure what I need is some kind of app that gives me an option to control my DVI output manually, rather than allowing the computer to decide when it would like to do it. Although I'm more than willing to be proved wrong! Mirrored displays are fine for what I want to do with this, although I have used the second desktop feature several times with monitors/projectors/etc.

Any ideas, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
