Greetings all powerful ones,
I seek your guidance.
I, like many others, recently upgraded to iOS 6.1 and have jailbroken my iPhone 5. With this recent jailbrake, I decided to purchase and download the ever popular and extremely useful Cydia App Store app PDAnet. I was disappointed to find out that I could not force the app to use my carrier's data connection rather than my local wifi connection(s). I contacted PDAnet's support team and they informed me that the option to force the app to use the data connection rather than wifi used to exist but has been removed from the current versions due to user request (users without unlimited data plans I assume). I find this to be somewhat confusing because most (all?) U.S. carriers have wifi tethering free with their data plans because of the shift to tiered limited data plans. Seemingly making PdaNet a thing for the select few fortunate and stubborn enough to maintain their unlimited data plans to take advantage of wifi tethering without the cost and limitations imposed by the carrier's tethering options. Yet this is not the case.
My questions are:
1) does anyone know of the most recent version of PDAnet that maintains the feature to force it to use the carrier's data connection despite local wifi networks being available (and remembered)?
2) does anyone know of a mod/tweak to make the current version of PdaNet (6.01) force use data connection rather than wifi?
3) any input on the subject of tethering / to be forwarded to a more appropriate forum / community for this type of question.
Thanks for reading.
