Couldn't see any mention of this elsewhere, but I've just discovered that the features exposed by Force Touch in 10.10.3 (e.g. Safari previews, calendar entries when clicking dates etc.) all work on older MBPs if you use the three button click. Neat!

That's great. I haven't upgraded to 10.10.3 yet. In Safari my three finger tap does word definition. What does it do now?

----------

Sorry. Just re-read your post. I meant how do I get a word definition now in 10.10.3 if three finger tap does those other things?

Just upgraded to 10.10.3

It's terrific. Three finger tap on a word without hyperlink gives dictionary definition and three finger tap on hyperlink gives Preview of webpage.

AFAIK, three finger tap has been available since 10.7. But I'm not sure if it did anything else than dictionary lookups and previews before 10.10.3.

Yep.. it works exactly as stated... So am not missing much from a functionality standpoint by not owning the latest 2015 Macbook Pro (by the way, I have the mid 2014 one)
