iPod touch Forced Restart

So I am trying the new IM client Palringo and it freezes my iPod Touch. Now when I try to hard line it to a computer (mac or windows) iTunes says it wont connect. I held down the on/off button for a solid minute and nothing happened. Anyone aware of a way to restart an iPod touch from a completely frozen state? Thanks
