I know many threads on this.....

I don't have separate SSID but what gives
Sitting right next to each other

2013 MBP will connect to the 5GHZ said consistently.
My 16" will not. I turn off Airport, turn it on. I have multiple AP's in my house...
Went to a different area where I know it would roam to a different AP. No matter what, it still sticks on 2.4ghz.

I can turn my 2013 MBP on/off and it will connect to the 5ghz consistently.

So weird but this is what seems to make it connect to 5ghz on the shared SSID....

I created a SSID that was 5Ghz only . connected to my AP. Disconneted from it.
When I reconnected back to the usual SSID which is both on the 2.4/5, it is not defaulting to connect on the 5Ghz. I've turned airport on/off. Same results

If you have independent SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks, "forget" the 2.4 SSID in network settings.

The main SSID in the house has both 2.4/5 running on it. The only others I have is one for IOT and one for guest.

Per the previous post, I made a SSID just on 5 to test if it was the radio on the MBP 16. Connected fine. Disconnected it and now, when I connect to my usual SSID, it not connects to 5ghz, whereas previously, no matter how much finicking I was doing , it would connect on 2.4.

Dunno.
