I'm genuinely curious, I'm torn between the two and have been trying to find comparison pictures but haven't found any. Does the hi-res really make the screen bigger and more usable? Which would be better for a college student running VMWare with Windows?

Thanks!

Basically you can display more on the high-res screen. Everything will "look smaller" but that's because it's higher resolution.

Imagine viewing a photo on the low res screen and say it overlaps the edges of the screen, well, if the photo is smaller than the high resolution maximum, then you would be able to see the entire photo on the high resolution screen.
