What exactly does Core 2 Duo mean? Does this mean that if the processor is a 2.4 C2D that since there are two it is really like a 4.8?
 
It's more an efficiency thing than a speed thing IIRC. You do get a boost but it's not 2x.
 
Also, "Core" is different from "Core 2". The latter is a newer design and performs better.

If you are looking at used equipment make sure you are looking for "Core 2 Duo" not "Core Duo".
