This happened to me a couple years ago, but back then i was on windows and i downloaded a program that "unhides" the stars. I can't find such a program for mac. Yes I have googled for answers with no luck.

my g4 powerbook is the last place i can login to AIM with since the password is saved. Am I out of luck and going to have to create a new one?

ah yes, should have mentioned that.

it's registered to my school email and i just graduated and my email acct was terminated at the end of this summer with no warning. Universities are awesome like that : /

It should be saved in your keychain. Open Keychain Access which is in your Utilities folder. Look down the list for your AIM username and that's probably it. Double click it and there should be a "Show Password" check box.
