Forgot iPhone password and won't reset?

Please help!! I lost my iPhone and somebody found it in the snowbank a month later... as far as my knowledge I did not have a password on it (I think I used to and the password was 6405) I must not have had a password because they were able to find my contacts list to call me. When I got my phone back the woman said it was "doing something weird" Anyways, all of a sudden it has a password on it. I would never use anything other than 6405 IF I DID have a password and this didn't work. I tried restoring the iPhone on iTunes as suggested but the iPhone still needed a password! It was on iOS 6 before I lost it. Please help! I need to get into the phone. Thank you!!

Put the phone in DFU Mode, google DFU mode and you'll be able to restore afterwards.
