We've got an iPad Air (iOS 12.5.7) with Screen Time enabled.
Now we want it disabled, but have forgotten the passcode.

Having looked up solutions online I'm supposed to click on "Change passcode for Screen Time", and there should be an option for "lost passcode", but it's not there. Perhaps this is a feature available in more recent iOS versions.
So now I have 9 failed attempts at entering the passcode and it's not possible to disable, change or reset the current passcode. What do I do?

I did read that it's somehow possible to reset it via AppleID, but I haven't found out how. I am however able to log this iPad into its AppleID, so if that'll help -how do I proceed to get Screen Time disabled?

I could be wrong here but, it sounds like you may have slipped the step to use the Apple ID or reset the passcode, when you set up the passcode on the iPad. If that is the case, I believe you are stuck unless you have a backup saved prior to setting a passcode. Your other option is to head to an Apple Store with the iPad and proof of purchase and they should be able to unlock it for you.

Fortunately we just dug up an old note with the correct password! :)
So Screen Time has now been turned off and those otherwise locked functions are now working again.

I did have a backup although I'm unsure if it was before or after switching on Screen Time.
I suppose now is the time to make another backup (now that Screen Time has been disabled). Does iTunes actually do a full backup of an iPad/iPhone? I was under the impression that it doesn't include everything; just a track of which apps have been installed (which it downloads again after a restore) and so on. But I also have an app called iMazing which I believe actually does a full backup (files and all). But I've never actually had the need to restore a backup (neither from iTunes nor iMazing) so I really don't know....
