did this cause any damage? my mac seems to work ok still, & I plugged in my thumb drive again & I can access everything.
 
unplugging w/o ejecting won't ruin your MBP per say it might corrupt data though, as long as you can access all the files fine, then it's fine
I've done so numerous times on accident and nothing has happened, it's just a precaution since some data transfer takes place even after you think it's done
