Basically I just upgrade my HDD with a new SSD and I'm planning to use my old HDD, with everything still on it, as my external storage.
There is only one problem, I cannot format my old HDD in Diskutility.
Is there any solution for my problem?
Thanks for your help!

What is the exact problem in Disk Utility? Can you make a screenshot and attach it to your next post?

Links to guides on how to use Disk Utility, the application Mac OS X provides for managing internal and external HDD/SSDs and its formats.

How are you connecting it. USB enclosure?

You could try booting with it disconnected, then connect it. This way you can be sure that the computer hasn't mistakenly automounted any partition on the external drive.

Another option is to connect it to a Windows PC, and wiping it there.

It should work if you have it as an external drive, that way the Mac just treat it as any data drive. If u boot with it, of course you cannot erase/format your boot drive.
