Hi,

I am trying to make a WD 500GB external Harddrive work on both PC (windows XP) and Mac OS X 10.5.6. It was first used on a PC so it is formated as MS-DOS FAT and is only readable on a Mac at the moment. As I understand it has to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work on the Mac, which I also think I can change (I am backing it up right now). My question is, will that format be readable and writable on the PC? If not, is there a formatting for this size of a HD that CAN be used without problems on both or is there a way in getting around this problem? I would really appreciate some advice.

Best wishes
Tom

The information is a little out of date due to advances with Snow Leopard I think, regarding OSX and NTFS
