So I just picked up an 8GB flash drive, and was wondering if there was any possible way to format the drive so that it both receives files larger than 4GB and is read/writeable on both OSs. Anyone?

FAT32
  • Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
  • No individual file larger than 4GB.
NTFS
HFS
  • Read/Write HFS from native Mac OS X
  • To Read/Write HFS from Windows, Install MacDrive
  • To Read HFS (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer

Thanks a lot, is there any way to format the drive NTFS from my mac?

That's a problem lol. I was messing around with it at work and now it only shows up in Windows if I format it FAT, and it will only allow a 200mb chunk of the 8GB to be formatted. Any suggestions?

It doesn't have option for NTFS format....
No?

Let me correct, as default, it doesn't :p Didn't know NTFS-3G adds NTFS support for DU too

You're right. Native Mac OS X doesn't. My assumption was based on following the info in my first post in this thread to enable read/write of NTFS, which adds that as a formatting option in DU.

Does NTFS-3G have a partition size limit? I keep getting an error when trying to format the drive "File system formatter failed."
