I just got the WD Mybook 500 GB Ext HDD. Its preformatted to FAT32. Now here's the problem - I want to use this HDD as a media drive for movies, music, pictures. I have a PS3 which I use all the time to play movies on my HDTV. So I want the PS3 to be able to read from the Mybook as well.

What should be the ideal format of the Mybook drive so that:-
Read/write from Mac
Read/write from PS3
Read (write although I don't think its possible) from a Windoze PC.

Suggestions please...(Meanwhile, I'm googling a bit to find out the answer :p)

I think the filesystem that you're looking for is FAT32. That is unless you're dealing with files larger then 4 GB.

That was super fast !
Yes, I too thought so but I am unable to write anything to the Mybook from my Mac.
Mount Point : /Volumes/My Book
Format : MS-DOS (FAT32)
I am getting the error code 0 when trying to write to the drive...

Ohh... damn... yes you are right... I just saw that the file I was trying to copy is a DVDRip> 4GB :(
yeah, it works for smaller files..
No other way out to keep bigger files, eh ?
I guess PS3 doesn't understand Mac OS formats...

I just read through http://www.wikihow.com/Add-an-External-Hard-Drive-to-a-Playstation-3
