I've never really experienced this before, and cant seem to find anything on the subject so figured id ask around these parts.

I got an 8GB USB flash drive for free with a purchase (its a PNY) and I wanted to format it to GUID so I could use it as a startup disk for a mobile OSX install. However, the weirdest thing is happening.

When the drive is formatted to OSX (Journaled) using MBR the full 8.02GB is shown as available in Disk Utility.

However, when I format that same disk to use a GUID partition table suddenly i only have 2.28 GB available.

What gives? Why am I suddenly losing space for a different partition table? I've never had this happen to me on any other flash storage device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
