I've been given a Western Digital Caviar 40GB and so I figured I might as well add it to my PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 867MHz, since I still have 2 open drive slots. The installation went fine and I'm now erasing and reformatting the drive... it seems as though everything is okay (no problems so far), but should the WDC in Disk Utility show "MS-DOS (FAT)" format while it's partition Caviar shows "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"? Here's pics to let you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

It will work, but I would change the partition scheme to APM. You have to go to the partition tab and change the volume scheme from Current in order to un-greyout the Options... button. Click this and choose Apple Partition Map (since you have a PPC machine)

Thanks for the help! Converting the partition map to APM worked.
