My MacBook will not go past the startup screen so I'm in the process of trying to format the drive and reinstall osx. When i put the disk in and startup pressing the option key I can see both the HD and disk, but when I choose the disk it just restarts and gets stuck in the startup screen again.

How can I format the HD if I can't book from either HD or disk?

Please please help

start it up holding T down and plug a firewire into it and then into another mac, you can then do whatever you want with the disk form then on

Hold down the "C" key while booting that will tell it to boot from the optical drive and the OS X disc. Good luck.
