Formatting the startup disk of PowerBook g4

Hi everyone,

Hard drive of my PowerBook died, now I m supposed to perform something like zero out I am not sure what it is but it's some thing like formatting f your hard drive and losing all the data that I had. I am ok with losing all the data but by doingthat by using Os DVD will the new os be copied on hard drive ? That some thng I am confused do I need to do some thing to install the os or the thing that I will do with disk utility-erase would suffice?

Another thing is if I don't abe original Os DVD is there a place I can download it from ?

If your hard drive is dead you won't be able to zero it out...because it's dead...

so assuming the hard drive is really dead you'll need to get a replacement drive (one of these), then you'll need a leopard/10.5 disk !NOT the 29 dollar snow leopard disk available in stores!. From there you'll be able to format your drive using the disk utility, and then you can follow the prompts to install.

You don't need the original install DVD's and good luck finding them (on the interwebz or otherwise). Since I assume by download you mean procure legally i'll point you to Ebay's offerings since I don't think Apple is selling 10.5 anymore...though I would assume if one utilized some sort of google search with the appropriate wording they could easily source the material...
