Developers Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft have announced that simulation racing game Forza Street is coming to iPhone and iPad on May 5.

ForzaStreetIX_HERO.jpg

Forza Street is a simplified version of the original Forza racing game series for Xbox and PC that emulates the performance and handling characteristics of real-life production, modified, and racing cars. The mobile version will include a story-driven mode as well as the option to compete in races that last just a minute.

In a game where collecting and upgrading cars often leads to domination on the streets, it'll be interesting to see how the developers balance the free-to-play mechanic with the presence of in-app purchases.

With that in mind, anyone who plays Forza Street within the first month will get the Founders Pack, which includes the 2017 Ford GT as well as virtual credits and gold.

Simplified mobile version
Free to play
In-app purchases
Virtual currency

I hope this flops horribly so that we can start getting actual games on iOS.

Agreed, try Grid Autosport. None of the above, just a great actual game

I think this will be one of thosse games that gets installed by millions based on name recognition alone - but almost all will decide the IAP stuff is prohibitive to proper game progression and stop playing. Problem will be that those that keep playing will bring in more than enough cash for them to think it's still worth it and not change a thing.

I hope this plays well - ie physics are reasonably realistic, but game is also fun to play. I'm a long time Real Racing 3 player and it is easy enough for anyone to get into, but can be more challenging with assists off, highly recommended. Grid Autosport I tried and hated, the car control was just terrible. Plus it takes minutes to load any level, the UI just doesn't feel like a performant iOS app. I don't recommend.

Forza Street is not a sim racer. It's not even a real Forza game. It's a re-released game from 2018 called Miami Street, dev'd by a small indy studio Electronic Square. It was rumored to be a mobile game that was going to be released on Windows phone (RIP). I've played every Forza Motorsport 'cept FM5 ← [insert poop emoji here]. Street is standard mobile IAP crap. MS is just going for a mobile cash grab. Street is a stain on the FM franchise.
This is why I like Apple Arcade.
Hate to tell you, but this game is not a good endorsement for Apple Arcade. I'm sure they've made some small changes, but here's the "sim" in all it's original glory.

Looks like this got a release on Windows 10 almost a year ago. Fun quote from a wiki page for it:

“Vehicle control is drastically different from the main series, as cars are automatically steered and only require player input for acceleration and braking.”

Oof.

this is my favourite game. plus controller support!

If they have an interface like Real Racing without the over the top micro transaction economics it could be a real winner. Plus, online head to head.

I think their point was that it makes a good endorsement for Apple Arcade because it embodies all the worst things about the games not on Apple Arcade.

(To be clear, the game is not on Apple Arcade.)

Yeah, "none of the above", including none of the Free to Play :D

I still get angry every time I'm reminded how EA ruined the RR franchise, and eventually the developer who created it and Flight Control. I suppose the Firemint guys got their payday, but from a user standpoint, it was a disaster after EA got their hands on them.

If you can customise cars and paintjobs etc then I'll give it a try. Not interested in the racing part.

I loved RR2. Unlimited multiplayer with evenly matched cars. They pulled the server in Feb 2015. My username was porkbaconham.

I heard quite some time ago that to buy all the cars in RR3 cost nearly $20,000. Play time is similarly ridiculous. Now they’ve added a lot more content. Even so, you can never just pick your car and track. And still you’re limited to about 10 minutes play time before you need to pay to use your car again.

You got farther than I did. I took one look at RR3, and who it came from, and quit cold turkey just out of principle.

I tried RR3 and i liked it initially but the IAPs just made it too difficult to get anywhere without paying money to progress which i didnt want to do. I liked how it looked and played but just couldnt be bothered to wait or pay to get anywhere which ruined it. As mentioned previously it was a backward step in terms of progressing etc compared to RR2.

I play Gear Club instead and whilst there is IAPs i've never paid a penny yet still done all the tracks and got loads of cars in each class. Its probably not perfect in terms of gameplay but there is a decent balance between being able to play for free and get somewhere in the game.
