I've only heard their controversial song, Pumped Up Kicks. While it's catchy, I can't tell whether it's promoting gun violence or (as some claim) raising awareness. Here's the chorus for those who haven't heard:

That's their most popular one. I've never really payed attention enough to the lyrics to understand the lyrics to detect the meaning.
Anyways, Helena Beat and Houdini are also very good.
Yeah, I'm also only familiar with that one song. It sounds great, but it kinda creeps me out how blasé and laid-back he sounds essentially about a school shooting or something like that...
Would you recommend the album as a whole, or only those songs? I'm more of an album- than single-person.
I think I've listened to everything up to Life On The Nickel http://www.azlyrics.com/f/fosterthepeople.html and liked all of it. I've only heard the "Pumped up Kicks" song and can't stand it. But a lot of friends seem to like Foster the People, so I've thought about checking out what else they have.

On that day, Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, Rakim, Black Thought, DJ ?uestlove (questlove), Titus Androncis, Zee Avi, and a ton more.
On Friday, The Shins are headlining, as well as Cage the Elephant...
But I'm just going on Saturday, mainly to see Foster the People, and Pretty Lights.
Pumped Up Kicks seems to be the odd one in that bunch of songs. It's very different sounding from the other songs.
I've only heard of Cage The Elephant from that list. Probably because Foster The People is one of the few Indie bands I listen to.
I've got the album and listen to it all the time. Pumped up kicks and helena beat are great songs!

They are quite interesting, I must say. Not incredibly controversial, but yes, I suppose they are somewhat. I have heard far worse, though.
Wow, I love Foster the People - 've been listening to them ever since they released Pumped up Kicks. I love their other songs too Call it what you Want is amazing.
I hope they continue the same way (see, I like MGMT and Empire of the Sun too as they have similar sounding to FtP, however they have ceased to produce or am I wrong?).
