Ok so I've found an iPhone and waited for somebody to call and I checked the iPhone it says no service and its locked and I can't get into it I plunged it into iTunes but it won't let me update the iPhone because I need to know the passcode but I don't so what do I do to get into the iPhone when I don't know the passcode ?

Now, the moral thing to do would be to just drop it off at a local police station, just in case the owner filed a report.

Whatever you decide to do with it is out of our control, however. Good Luck!:)

I guess this is a shortcoming of iOS. Great the phone is locked it keeps people out if it's ever stolen. However what if someone finds it and wants to return it to you? Maybe if you had a feature where you hit the home button three times when on the lock screen it would display contact information. Obviously make it optional, but that way if a good Samaritan wanted to get your phone back to you they could. Until then you could always do this.

You can text the phone saying if found contact XXX-XXXX.

Or just make sure you enable Find my iPhone and track it down yourself.

why do you need to do anything with it? Turn it in to the police, no need to access it in any way. Doing anything BUT turning it into police changes it from a "found" iPhone to a STOLEN iPhone. Good luck.

return it to police is the best option available.... you only risk to have it blacklisted and maybe your sim deactivated. Please do the right thing
