iPod touch found an ipod and need to find the owner any tip?

I have found an ipod in the street in north miami how I do to find the owner ? because i tried to connect to my computer and also tried to log in with my id but is locked and I cant access to any info to reach the owner

Sometimes the contact info is engraved on the back of the iPod. If it's in a case and you haven't looked there, give it a try.

Try taking it to an Apple Store or police.

Craigslist is another option.

Keep it charged and let it connect to an open wifi. The owner can track it with Find My iPhone and put a message on the screen so you can contact him/her.

Question on this... how can one be sure that the person is legit who contacts you? Or, that the authorities will do anything to track the person down?
