Driving my moto to work and found what I think is an iphone 4 on the side of the road in an intersection in the country. It has been run over and front and back are shattered. The screen lights up a little and can see a little of something but impossible to decipher anything.

Questions:
1: Can I plug it in and get contacts to call someone? (home/ICE/mom/dad)
2: Should I try to track down owner if in this shape?
3: What should I do with it? If I spend the $$$ and fix it myself is it useful?

This is not a moral issue, I don't use apple products and wouldn't use it myself (no offense). And to pre-emt the "contact the police" Sheriffs dept has my number in case someone reports it and no houses are within a reasonable distance to ask.

Er take it the apple store to fix too too expensive.

I do not think the iPhone 4 need to fix, as the fix fee may up to buy a new one. if you want, take it to some phone repair shop near your home.

Thanks for the reply. After some major fiddling I was able to make out it was a Verizon phone, I brought it to the Verizon store but they said the serial is not legible and they could not figure out whose it is with no screen.

either way I have it and figure im going to see what I can do with it... so what can i do with it? I was told if its been tagged as stolen It can only be used as an MP3. But I have read you can jail break it and get around that? I also use verizon, anything I can do?

thanks for your help!

if its a 4s use siri to make a call

Can I use SIRI if the screen is locked? I can only see a very small portion of the screen and its locked. thanks for your help

it was probably reported to verizon as lost/stolen, so the MEID will likely be blocked and cant be used on verizon as your own. you can buy the pieces to put it back together again and use it as an ipod, so long as everything works.

If you plug it into iTunes, can you see the serial number? Or there may be some way to "get info" on the phone once it's attached to your computer. If it has a lock on it, this might not be possible unless unlocked first. I would bet an Apple store could get the serial number info and then maybe VZ would have better luck finding the owner.

Plug into computer, restore as new, then maybe get the MEID through iTunes? I have never looked to see if that info was available in iTunes.
