I found a iPod touch at my work at least three ago. We put it in our lost and found and sent out an email and and no one ever claimed it. It has a passcode on it so I couldn't look and see who the owner was. Does the Apple store help with finding the owner? I feel bad but if the owner can't be found, can I just re-set it?

While I applaud you for at least attempting to come up with a plausible story, you're not going to find much help here cracking into someone else's iPod Touch.

I recommend trying the Apple Store for help.

Well considering the fact that I have two ipods stolen from me, i am not trying be a thief.

Now when you say "Three ago" do you mean three weeks, months, years?
If you mean months, I would say the owner has probably moved on, and although it's a noble cause, that's still pushing it. If you do get it wiped for yourself, I would still be ready to give it to the original owner if you find him/her. Yay for good people who actually care about other people! Give it another week of looking and then I would say reward yourself for the good-ness by keeping it for yourself.

well it's not an iphone, cause if it was, and that person had mobile me, they could have easily found it, and if they were smart enough to put mobile me, on an ipod touch, for a back up plan, it would have been nice, but could have not worked efficiently as an iphone due to lack of GPS.

but since you tried very hard and found no owner, I guess you could go to an apple store, and unlock it, or place it in DFU mode, and restore it's settings in itunes, like I heard other people do it.

but don't feel bad OP. if it was an iphone, i would have been mad as hell, but with an ipod touch, is like finding a dollar on the ground you are not going to place it in the lost and found most likely you will keep it,

but finding a lost iphone is like finding a letter with an address and some money inside.

but if you find something, at least contact the people addresed in it's contacts..

Where do you live? i lost my ipod touch a little more than 3 months ago =(

at least give some information about it if you are serious about finding the owner..

Get the word out where you work that you found an ipod touch. I'm sure someone will be able to let you know the contents of it, to the point you believe it's theirs.

Or watch in wonder as they casually unlock it...

I call BS on the whole thing.... Far more plausible had the OP said "...it was handed in to HR/ lost property (or wherever) 3 months ago, and now they've given it back to me as noone claimed it..."

Then again, I've always been suspicious....

my ipod touch is lost/was stolen a couple of weeks back...looked all over my house, thought it was there, but its not :(. I guess i'll just either buy a remaining 2G or get the new 3G when it comes out :)

where is ts? did he/she disappear after knowing there are people who really lost their ipod touch months ago and may be potential owner of the ipod touch that he/she found?

hmm

that is why mine is engraved and has my last name and zipcode .that is all that is needed..I can't believe there is no way apple could not track the sale?

It's hard to track the sale because they are sold in many places and it could be a used sale as well. If he bought it from the Apple store, they could look up the serial number and find the transaction. Everything I bought from the Apple store I had to give them my email address. Well from the transaction they get his email address and see if he replies.
