Works well enough, very sturdy, switches very quick to keyboard mode again, and doesn’t look nearly as awkward as that whole keyboard in the air thing

Angle looks very steep still

It is. I didn’t find it to be that uncomfortable at all. I guess we will see though after a long drawing session. For me I really only use it in a pinch or for a few minutes at a time and it would probably be just fine.

Most artists work on an elevated drafting stand or an easel. A flat surface is terrible to work on. And with the reflective displays of modern tablets, if you have any over-head light, working at less than about 20-30 degrees of angle means terrible glare.

Testing out this position now and it works surprisingly well. I can write extensively on my lap on the couch one-handed. I like how easy it is to switch between this position and “docked”. Thanks!

No problem! It’s surprisingly comfortable right?! especially when it’s in your lap it works fantastic i think. Yeah definitely digging how easy it is to switch back and forth between the two.

Not surprisingly, portrait mode works very well and sturdy just like this too. Very handy for when you are doing things like reading news apps.

Then of course there is also entertainment mode. For when you want to bring the screen closer to you like in bed or on your desk. Not as sturdy, but not too bad. EDIT: It is in fact VERY stable to use it in this sort of entertainment mode.

.....and looks precariously held in place and only one accidental nudge away from a fall.

Again, it’s surprisingly stable. Perfectly usable in any of the positions on a table or on your lap. I’d say MORE stable than my Surface Pro using just the kickstand for lap/bed use in these positions because you retain the stability of the entire keyboard base rather than relying on just a couple of small points of contact with the Surface method.

If Apple were able to modify the next design slightly so that it magnetically secured into each of these positions - even just a little - it’d be even better.

I’ll give it a try! Mine arrives today:)

Good findings OP! I guess the lip between the keyboard and trackpad is what keeping it from sliding off?

If anyone is seeing this and doesn’t yet own the magic keyboard, here is why these different “modes” work rather well:

The reason it is stable is because there is an indentation on the keyboard where the ipad pro sort of slots into. Since the ipad pro has a boxy design, it puts pressure into place and basically stops the ipad from going anywhere.

I have to use it more to be sure, but it is absolutely rock solid, not going anywhere.

Hi how's the matte screen experience?
Does it impact image resolution/ distortion?
How's scrolling or multitouching with matte?
Does it erodes pencil tip faster?
Kindly reply.

I absolutely love the matte screen that I got, but I will warn you that I went through 3 different brands before finding a 4th that worked great. A ton of matte screen protectors absolutely wreck the image quality and honestly make the ipad pro a bad experience. For instance, the iCarez ones (top on Amazon) are trash.

Any matte screen protector is going to have SOME compromises on screen quality.

I got the pack from Supershieldz and bought on ebay since it ships faster now. The rainbow effect and quality degradation is as close to non-existent as I have found. Fingerprints don’t collect as easily and when they do they are much easier to wipe off. Scrolling and touch feel fantastic on it, even if my hands are oily or sweaty, which can feel gross on the glass itself. The pencil tip doesn’t seem to degrade on this protector and the writing experience is also very good.

They come in a 3 pack and a lifetime warranty. I’ll typically use one for about 2 months, then take it off and rock the glass for a few weeks before putting one back on. I love the look of the glass for the vibrancy and color, but virtually everything else is better with the matte.

Your search might be over now, but I would also suggest trying the Elecom Matte screen protector if you love the pencil sound when you sketch, which I think is essential for me.

I've used it on all my iPads since 2017 and it didn't have those rainbow distortions. It's weird, you would think that because it has more texture than the brand Paperlike, it would have more of those distortions, but they are actually clearer. I guess the Japanese figured it out.

They will feel slightly rough to the touch when it's new but it quickly balances off once you use it. The texture will still be there but not the initial touch roughness some people say. It's worth a try. I'm installing it on my iPad once it gets here. After using this it ruined other matte screen protectors for me.

After 1.75 years of drawing mode, is your cover’s mechanism still ok?
great discovery that should be advertised if so
