The experts at iFixit are at it again, documenting their fourth-generation iPod touch teardown as they proceed carefully through the process. Updates will continue throughout the teardown process, but here are some items of interest so far:

- With no visible screws, all it takes is a heat gun and some prying to open up the new iPod touch.

- Like the iPhone 4, the display and front glass are fused together, complicating repairs but reducing dust infiltration and likely making for improved aesthetics with the screen appearing to be "on" the glass rather than underneath it.

- The battery is 3.44 watt-hours, and soldered to the logic board.

Have been watching this. Was hoping they would also dig into the components inside the display, but that appears impossible based on the construction (similar to the iPhone).

I love that site!

I think one question everybody wants to know is, how much RAM is in the new Touch.

We already know Apple dinked on the RAM and cut it in half. Way to go backwards Apple!

Can they tell how much ram is on the touch? Was it them that confirmed iPhone had 512mb?

Its already been confirmed that its only got 256!

The camera on it is also kinda Poopoo.

Edit: I take that back the camera is crap, I can't believe how poor the quality of photos it takes are!

Maybe you can post another story when they are almost done and then another when they actually finish.

Software can always be inaccurate, or do I just not want to believe... :(

All around its slower than the iPhone 4. At $300 and $400 it should not be slower!!! Arghhh its so frustrating as I really wanted to get one of these.

Edit:
Its just barely faster than the 3rd Gen iTouch in integer performance.

It's a shame that Apple decided to fragment the product line with the new iPod Touch having 256MB. It really should've been just like the iPhone 4.

Now devs need yet another product to test on to make sure retina display graphics don't blow the RAM on the new iPod.

How do you know, I thought it's supposed to perform identical to the iPhone, just like with the 3rd gen touch and 3GS.

Nvm, I see it, only 256 RAM. This gen started out looking good, and it just gets worse and worse.

And that is exactly what what I wrote here almost a week ago.

But more importantly: Let's not forget that the battery capacity was upped by roughly 20% Which is great news, and enough to support the A4 since the iPod Touch lacks cell phone capabilities and also, it doesn't come with a power hungry IPS display.
