PARIS (Dow Jones)--French telecom operator France Telecom's (FTE) mobile unit Orange has sold 70,000 of Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) iPhone handsets since the phone was launched in France on Nov. 28, according to a group spokesman quoted by French daily Le Figaro in its Friday editions.

Orange is the iPhone's exclusive supplier in France and had a target of 50,000 to 100,000 handset sales for the period.

No one at Orange was available for comment.

The Naysayers will call this disappointing and the Fans will call this a triumph. Either way my iPhone is the best phone I've ever had and continues to please me. I'm glad 70,000 Frenchmen can feel that same way too!
