Free international sms?

i just got back from europe and made a lot of friends there i want to keep in touch with.. what is the best iphone app that allows me to send free sms to an international phone over wifi? i know there are a lot out there and its hard for me to determine which is best. any advice is appreciated

I use google voice sms to sms international friends. U have to use safari to access google voice website.

If they have iPhones or a Mac, iMessage works great.
