I am the (new) volunteer business manager for a church in Massachusetts. They have a large set of records (some going back to the late 1800's) which have been kept on a Macbook. Because of a fire some years ago, some of these records exist only on the computer. Before I came, the machine had never been backed up. I now have it backed up to an external drive with Time Machine. However, I am not comfortable with only this backup, and want to do an external/online backup as well. One of our church members has a Google Nearline account, and will give us a "bucket" on his account. I have been researching backup programs that can backup to Nearline. The best in class that I have found is called Arq. I tried the evaluation, and the program is fantastic, and has a responsive developer. However, the churches current budget doesn't have funds for it's purchase. The program is $40, and under normal circumstances, a bargain at that price, (I would buy it for them, but I am currently unemployed and can only volunteer my time).
Is there any program with similar capability to Arq (including the ability to backup to Nearline) that is either free or nominal cost?
