Free Phone, then iPhone?

My friend wants to switch to AT&T, for the iPhone(and better services)


I know he can get one of their free phones(after rebate) and then buy an iPhone(I did it)...but I waited until I got the rebate in the mail(because it was before the iPhone was for sale) but if he signs up with AT&T, gets a phone, sends in his rebate paper, then switches to an iPhone/iPhone plan, will AT&T still give him the rebate, or will they not send it to him because he no longer uses that device(as his main phone)

Want to make sure my friend doesn't end up paying for a phone, that he could get for free...

I would think they would have to give him the rebate, regardless of whether he uses the device anymore. I dont want to be the one who says he should have no problem, and it ends up that they dont give it to your friend, just my thoughts on the matter.
