Exact-er-ly. Stupid, stupid DRM.

By the way, trick to get past DRM. You buy an album with DRM from iTunes. Burn it to a CD. Then import that CD into iTunes, naming it something different just slightly (just so you aren't confused) and making sure you are importing as MP3 and not AAC. You now have DRM-free songs. Open them up in GarageBand and edit them slightly, then do the Share thing as a ringtone.
