I've released a free "Lite Edition" of Solitaire City so people can try out my game risk free. It doesn't seem to have shown up in the App Store search engine yet so you can click here for a direct link to the App Store page

The Lite Edition features two solitaire games that didn't appear in the original Solitaire City Deluxe Edition:

  • Spiderette - similar to Spider Solitaire but played with one deck of cards instead of two which makes the game a lot easier to win and takes less time to play.
  • Double Klondike - same rules as regular Klondike but played with two decks of cards instead one.

These two new games have also been added to the latest v1.20 release of Solitaire City Deluxe.

The global online hi-score tables have been removed from the Lite version but it's still a lot of fun to play as you try to beat your best times and players on the local hi-score tables.

Solitaire City Deluxe features the following additions to the free Lite Edition:

  • Over 300 online hi-score tables that are automatically downloaded over WiFi or cellular connection so you can try to beat the scores of the best Solitaire City players in the world.
  • Over 60 solitaire game variations ....
  • Klondike (12 variations including deal 1 and deal 3 cards at a time)
  • Spider (one suit, two suit and four suit rules)
  • FreeCell (7 variations including timed games and Microsoft game numbers)
  • Golf (4 variations)
  • Yukon (3 variations)
  • Poker Squares (4 variations)
  • Pyramid (4 variations)
  • Tri-Peaks (face up and face down rules)
  • Alternations (4 variations)
  • Casket (2 variations)
  • Eliminator (3 variations)
  • Demon/Canfield (4 variations)
  • Cribbage Squares (3 variations)
  • Double Klondike (3 variations)
  • Spiderette (one, two and four suit rules)
  • Choice of background images.
  • Choice of cardset designs.
  • Switch between card layouts for right handed players and lefties.
  • Lock the display to landscape or portrait.
  • Today's top 50 scores in the world for each game/rule combination.
  • Yesterday's top 10 scores in the world for each game/rule combination.
  • This Week's top 50 scores in the world for each game/rule combination.
  • Last Week's top 10 scores in the world for each game/rule combination.
  • Top 50 best scores in the world ever for each game/rule combination.
  • Display your country's flag next to your name on iPhones all around the world if your score is good enough.
  • Top 15 personal best scores for each game/rule combination.

The price of the Deluxe Edition has also been reduced from $9.99 to $7.99 on a permanent basis. If you like playing solitaire then try out this new Lite Edition for free. You have nothing to lose !

Cheers !

I noticed the paid version a while back and thought of buying it, but I was reluctant because of the price and the fact that there are cheaper solitaire games out there. I downloaded the free Lite version when I saw it in the App Store this morning, and I really love it. The UI is really well done. I like it so much that I'm going to go ahead and buy the full version. Well done.

I'd love to download this to compare it to Sol Free, but your link doesn't seem to work.

EDIT: Seems the Phobos iTunes launcher thingy is down right now, and the iTunes Store is REALLY slow, too.

I think the link works, it's just that Apple's servers are bogged down right now. Also, "Solitaire City Lite" doesn't show up in the App Store search results yet for some reason, even though it was released two days ago and there's a page for the App. I noticed the same thing with Funky Punch Lite which I wanted to check out. If you type either of those App names into the search engine then nothing is found. Hopefully Apple just take several days to update their search servers but it's a bit frustrating. In the meantime you can find the Solitaire City Lite page by clicking on the App Store link in iTunes, then clicking on "All Free Applications" which lists all the latest Apps in order of date released. It was released on 12th Sept which is on Page 2 right now. Hopefully Apple will make it easier to find soon. Thanks !

Just downloaded it and played some Spiderette.

Wow, I'm impressed! The card controls and animations are impressive! The only nitpick I have is that the backs of the cards are kinda ugly, and the pictures of the suits aren't too clear (making them simply 2D like Sol Free would make them much clearer).

Otherwise really impressive!

My 2 cents!

Thanks for your comments. Good to hear you like my game. Solitaire City Deluxe comes with a choice of three different card designs, one of them has the flat, non-3D/shadow type suits you're talking about. Here's a link to a screenshot showing this design.

See if you like it any better. I prefer the 3D suits personally but it's good to have a choice.

I have Solitaire City and like it a lot. I even bought it before the price drop. The UI is very well done, and the online leaderboards are strangely addicting. :)

I have to admit, though, I've been tempted over to the Mondo side since the recent update supposedly fixed most of the UI issues. It just comes down to game selection--they just appear to have a ton more.

Any plans to expand out the game selection in SolCity?

Double Klondike Rule 3 Score

Could anyone please tell me the highest online score for this? I don't want to purchase it quite yet... I will purchase this app soon when cash is more flowing, it's very, very addictive.

Merry Christmas folks!

Solitaire City Soiderette and Double Klondike Hi-Scores

As of 21st December 2008, the best scores ever from Solitaire City Deluxe as they relate to the Lite version are:

Spiderette Rule 1: John 9726 (0:41) (United States)
Spiderette Rule 2: echo 10061 (1:09) (Japan)
Spiderette Rule 3: u5t 9710 (2:38) (Japan)
Double Klondike Rule 1: asamickey 14838 (2:56) (Japan)
Double Klondike Rule 2: Jason Darcy 14670 (3:10) (Australia)
Double Klondike Rule 3: Dan 14838 (2:56) United Kingdom

So the Japanese are dominating right now ! Please note that I've only posted 1st place scores here as there are 50 All Time Great hi-scores per game per rule, 50 Weekly Best, 10 Last Weeks Best, 50 Daily Best and 10 Yesterdays Best and it would take me forever to copy them all down. So plenty to compete against at all levels. Even if you can't get on the Champions hi-score table then you can usually see your name on the Daily score table, especially if you play shortly after they roll over at midnight before they fill up with monster scores.

Cheers !
