Free space after iOS4

Hi, I have an iPhone 3G( 8GB) and noticed that I only have 6.9GB of free space after installing iOS 4. Is this normal?

I have the same as yourself.

iOS is a little chunky now.

Did you update or restore? My understanding is that when you update there's a couple hundred MB left over from the previous os. Better to restore to the new OS, rather than upgrade.

I've restored several times. still the same thing. Don't know why there is a wasted space.

Its not wasted space, it's the OS
