Free space not showing on desktop

The free space on the internal HD on my MacBook Core Duo 1.83GHz with 2GB RAM & 100GB HD is not showing. I've tried repairing permissions, checking the disk, FSCKing and trashing com.apple.finder.plist but no luck. When I create a new account the problem does not occur. Any ideas?

Is your account an Administrator account?

The free space on the OS drive isn't shown if you're not an administrator.

That Mac hint didn't work for me when this happened to me. What I did was do a repair of the permissions and the free space eventually came back.
