Free? Textbooks

Im looking at maybe getting a kindle for christmas to use for textbooks in college...I took a look at the *kindle textbook store* and there is very little if any textbook offered there. Does anyone have a suggestion for digital textbooks? Preferably cheaper than buying or free because I currently rent my books.

I think with the Kindle you're limited to the books just from the Amazon store, although I'm not sure.
